Abstract:

Every emergency follows a four phase cycle: preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation; each of them will be explained. The causes and kinds of disasters can be natural or man-made and the most important ones will be described. In particular the major impacts of water and fire on audiovisual material will be illustrated, but other impacts mentioned, too. Preparedness means to have a disaster plan which can be subdivided into three phases: Before = getting ready to cope; During = when disaster strikes; and After = getting back to normal. Every of these three phases will be described in detail. Finally, there are some recommendations how to avoid failures.
