Abstract:
At least with the start of digitizing video collections the amount of digital data requires cheaper solutions with longer lifetimes for serious storage.
As there are some institutions who already deal with the same problems, it would be very interesting for all of us to discuss the requirements and the possible solutions.
In a recent project the Austrian Mediathek has developed an intelligent storage using standard hardware and Free Software ("DLP-Storage"). The knowledge we achieved during this process is what I want to contribute to this workshop.
This workshop aims not just to be a presentation of the solution used at the Austrian Mediathek. It rather should focus on a discussion to increase the knowledge for all of us.
